A friend introduced me to LTE a few years ago and shortly after I bought a few of their songs. I regret not buying them all. Everything this band makes is incredible. I'd listen to them over and over.

I defy you to not get hyped up listening to paradigm shift. That first two minutes are crazy. First time I listened to it I couldn't fathom that I hadn't heard this before. Amazing album.

Try John Pettruci's Guitar Solo from the Dream Theatre album "Once In a Livetime". It is fantastic and it has parts from each of these songs

LTE-1 is much more "purely" progressive and experimental than LTE-2. If you love the experimental proggy stuff, jump on top of LTE1 quickly and listen to Three Minute Warning. I find pure progressive music to be a little tiring after a while. My brain can only stand being bent sideways for so long before it cries "Uncle" I suppose. That said, I found Liquid Tension's second album, LTE-2, to be FAR more listenable. In short, I'm glad I purchased and listened to LTE-1. A couple songs, Paradigm Shift and Universal MInd, are quite good. But now that I've listened to it once, I'm probably gonna give it some space for a while. Now, LTE-2, on the other hand, I've listened to like 10 times STRAIGHT and I want to listen to it yet again. Hope that helps somebody!

First listened to it back in 1998 when it was released having learned that a couple of members from Dream Theater have release an all instrumental album - and what an album it is - been part of music collection ever since - tape, then cd and now of course digital. This album is heavily influenced by the elements of progressive rock and feature numerous changes in pace, tone, and mood from song to song and sometimes within a song. I highly recommend this album to any prog / rock / metal fans as well as any of you who are students of music. Each of the musicians are among the top 3-5 proponents of their respective arts in the world and in 1998 they certainly broke new barriers for what was possible in an all-instrumental release - Liquid Tension Experiment is a pretty apt album name! The album is bookended by two galloping songs in Paradigm Shift and Universal Mind (the last song 3-Minute-Warning is an impromptu yet insane jam thrown in as a bonus and not a composition!) showcasing the entire arsenal of sonic ability in each of these extraordinary musicians. The meat of the album has a generous sprinkling of eminently listenable tunes generating mood and vibe - nothing dark though! I will however say this is not the most musically accessible album - meaning - if you are into mainstream music and pop it probably will be overwhelming for you - but as a fan of music I would like nothing more than for you to have a listen, be amazed and then listen to Liquid Tension Experiment 2!

Paradigm shift 6/5- you will get a paradigm shift if u don't like LTE but then hear this. Osmosis 3/5 Cool song Kindred spirits 3/5 it's Ok not all that great. The Stretch 4/5 interesting piece. Freedom of speech 4/5 i'm listening 2 it right now. so far, so good. CAKEA 3/5 nice piece, but it's kind of weird, liquid trio experiment album has a sequel 2 this. this is the only song with any words, it says EXCELLENT around the end. state of grace 5/5 Who knew there was such thing as soft metal? One riff sound's EXACTLY like a jewish song, i think tony levin is jewish, which is good. Universal mind 6/5 u might die if u don't hear this, but the last 40 seconds have no point in being in the song. 3 minute warning 6/5 A great 28 minute jam session, created because tony was stubborn about not making jam sessions, and he gave the band 3 minutes to jam or he'd go home. So..........BUY THE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
