A real sound painter

Terrific CD! This guy is so talented, with so many influences, that it hasn't always been easy for him to settle in on a sound for his own recordings. Taking songs into the studio and ending up with something that does justice to the original inspiration is actually quite difficult. Watkins nails it here with some inspired, less-is-more sound paintings that showcase his great talent as an instrumentalist, composer, and producer. Lyle Lovett, Abra Moore, Leonard Cohen, Carole King, Jennifer Warnes, and Barbara Dennerlein are just a few of the many artists that this guy has helped to shine. And if he had half as much hair as any of them (except Leonard), you'd probably recognize his name too. Great sounding tunes from one of the most complete musicians I've ever been exposed to.
