Super album, long overdue. I purchased this album at one of Joes concerts and found the songs on Rain are instant classics. Joe Jackson is the man.

Pretty boring... I'm a big Joe Fan, but this album all sounds the same... like it was written and recorded all in one day at the same studio with the same producer.
Can’t Stop Joe Jackson

Rain is an instant classic and history will judge it as one of Joe Jackson’s best releases, certainly up there with Night and Day.
The songs go down effortlessly upon first listen and continue to improve with age. Every aspect of the album from beginning to end is superb. Joe’s songwriting, arrangements, singing and piano playing all reflect an artist at the top of his game, and not at all the has-been that one might expect from someone whose last hit record was in the early 80’s. If you’ve been craving a new collection of sophisticated pop songs informed by some jazz, latin and a touch of classical music, look no further. This is it.

Joe Jackson's not just a great musician who commands a broad range of musical styles, he's an extremely careful, and tuneful, craftsman whose intelligence comes across in every chordal progression and lyrical turn of phrase. This album shows him mellowing a bit emotionally; the sarcasm of his early days is waning, it seems, showing up only in "Good Bad Boy." That song in particular shows his staggering capacity to string together truly adventurous and expansive musical passages into a coherent pop song. Who else is writing such complex pop songs like this?
Great album... flawed encode.

Hopefully iTunes will fix it shortly, but right now there is distortion on the encode of this album. Another fabulous album from Joe. Love you madly!
[Have now bought the CD and confirmed what I suspected, that the encode here is bad. Sounds like digital clipping—loud piano notes break up. This is throughout the album, but most evident on "Solo." No word from Apple since I wrote them a week and a half ago.]

I love Rush Across the Road. I can do without the interviews so I picked up 6 of the songs that I liked based on the samples. I too am seeing JJ at the Keswick in April. One of the best shows I have ever seen was his Big World tour in the late 80's at Radio City Music Hall. I was 3rd row...amazing show....

Surely the industry will take notice of JJ's contributions to American pop music. At some point, they will finally honor him at one of the many award shows. His voice is unmistakable, as well as many of his compositions. Rain is a continuation of work for someone who can create his own art and has his own ear. Look Sharp was a fav for me back in the day. He is right there with the likes of Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, etc... Rain is confident, mature pop music.
love this album

joe's hooks, virtuoso musicianship, and wild, vulnerable vocals are all intact. after not being crazy about some of his last releases, i celebrate upon hearing RAIN. these are beautiful, deep and deeply alive songs that stick with you.
