I cannot think of many composers I admire more than Maria Schneider. She has a way of bringing out the best in each of her musicians. She has a way of surrounding her soloists to create lush texture and landscapes. “The Willow,” beautifully crafted for Scott Robinson's playing, slowly transforms from gentle laps to intense crashes. The listener is reminded of a lush lakeside landscape. Her rearm of “The Days of Wine and Roses,” reminiscent of many wonderful arrangements by the late Bob Brookmeyer, presents Tim Reis and Rich Perry in the most outstanding way. I can’t help but smile while their solos fly around Maria’s orchestrations. Cannot speak highly enough of this. It’s a joy every time I get to listen to it.
