If I Could Only Remember My Name

I listened to all three albums mentioned in the iTunes review and Crosby's is the clear winner. There's just something about the vib of this album that strongly appeals to me. I ran across Laughing on S2 E2 of Dark Winds and thought to myself, why there's a CSN song that I've never heard before.

Hard to believe this classic is now 50 years in the rearview mirror. Lot's of debate these days about Crosby's "personality"- but his genius is undeniable. For me timelessness is one of the truest measures of great music. This albumn stands the test of time and then some. I revisited this because of an interview in the LA Times - and now, at 79 Crosby is still making important, relevant and influential music. Over five decades and counting is a timeline equal of only a few masters.

Sorry, the iTunes reviewer doesn't recognize the importance of this album. It's not a hang over, it's a stoney Saturday afternoon on Mt. Tamalpais. This incredible album contains the recorded musical contributions of David Crosby, Graham Nash, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Jack Cassidy, Grace Slick, Paul Kanter, David Freiberg, Michael Shrieve, and Greg Rolie, amongst others. So you've got various members of CSN&Y, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Santana, basically the musical creme-de-la-creme of Marin County during the early 1970's, playing on the the same album. As Hank Harrison pointed out in his comment, this album is the result of the "Planet Earth Rock 'n' Roll Orchestra" sessions held at Wally Heider's in San Francisco. This album is a time capsule of Marin County from that time and many of these songs are as relevant today as they were then. These are well structured songs with great playing and harmonies. Give it a listen, you won't regret it!

Can I give it 10 stars. Gosh, I had this vinyl album in the 70's and nearly wore it clean through to the other side from playing it so much. It totally defined my hippie days and youth and those are the raw unforgettable moments that shape your life. I loved the depth of the music, the haunting melodies, the way it made me feel.

If you can find a better voice than David Crosby in his prime, let me know! Take that voice, add a bunch or people from the Dead and the Aiplane, mix well, and you have a blissfull lstening experience. FO SHO!

If you want to experience the feelings and atmosphere of the time, these sessions are the closest to being there. Out of my 2100 vinyls and 120GB of digital this work is in the top 20.

First heard this album back in the early 70s high in the Rockies (two ways to interpret that BTW) and loved the slow paced and hauntingly beautiful theme and tone of this entire reportorial. If nothing else, listening to DC and co. brings back fond memories and a deep sense of of inner peace - great for late mid-age high BP as well as a provisioner of a sereneness necessary to calm the emotional effects of current political maelstroms and the current wave of attacks on personal liberties and the risE of Imperialistic government brought forth by the Obama regime. Yup, I am a former Hippie turned sane (Conservative).
