Great recording

I had heard about this album for a long time but was never able to find it. I just downloaded it the other day and am really pleased. I have been a fan of Kurt's for a few years and have heard his playing as a sideman from before I was a real fan. I really fell in love with Heartcore and The Next Step. But what I appreciate about ECLA is that his sound is still very much developed even back when this was recorded in the mid '90s. The setting is unique in that he is doing mainly standards. His take on these tunes is great and you can really hear his chordal approach which is heavily used during his solos. Also, the diversity of tunes and his approach to each is refreshing. My favorite track personally is his original "B Blues"--great sound and soul. I have felt that Rosenwinkel has this cosmicly unique approach to songwriting, and in this particular tune, you can hear his roots to old soul music, which reminds me that he is a Philly boy afterall!
